Choosing the Right Facial

Choosing the Right Facial

It’s easy to get confused or even overwhelmed with all the different facial services out there today. When it comes to determining what your skin needs here are some things that you need to consider; what issues you have with your skin, what you are trying to target specifically, and what results are you looking to obtain. Keep in mind, you have to be realistic as well.  As nice as it sounds, one facial isn’t going to solve all of your skin problems. So when it all comes down to choosing the right facial for you here are several things to keep in mind;

Understanding the basics of a facial – A multi-step skin treatment is one of the best ways to take care of your skin.  This includes cleansing, exfoliating, hydrating, nourishing, etc. Along with masks, moisturizers, serums, and SPF’s we want to help promote a healthy and clear complexion. The benefit of this includes preventing premature aging, promotion of blood circulation, reduction of acne and acne scars, and detoxifying of the skin.

Choosing the right facial for you – If you’re wanting to reduce the look of fine lines and wrinkles along with sagging and dull looking skin, then look for an “Anti-Aging Facial”.  This is going to be a facial with a little more exfoliation as well as additional hydration. You will also want to lean more towards chemical exfoliation such as lactic acid, retinol and  enzymes.  These ingredients will help get rid of that first layer of dead skin cells, which is resting on top of beautiful healthy and fresh skin. The dead skin is what’s currently giving you complexion an appearance of dull, gray, deeper wrinkles and larger pores.  However if you’re looking to treat your acne breakouts and scars, look for facials that have the words “Clarifying Facial”. This will indicate that the treatment is meant for acne-prone skin.  This type of facial, as our does, should include a salicylic cleanser, a clay or activated charcoal mask, high frequency to kill off any bacteria on the skins surface, minimal facial massage, and serums to help clarify the skin.

Being realistic - Know that not all problems are fixed with one facial. You should be keeping up a regular regimen of receiving facials as well as consistent home care. The truth is that 80% of the progress is from your at home routine and 20% from inside the treatment room. Getting your skin on a daily regimen that targets your skins needs and problems will dramatically improve the appearance of your skins texture and overall health. Talk to your esthetician about what products you should be using at home to achieve optimal results.
